Michael King with a hat-trick, and Wes Fletcher from the penalty spot getting the goals for the Clarets, while the Seasiders scorer goes unreported. Burnley were then victorious once more on Wednesday evening at home as they defeated Preston 2-0, Liam Newman bagging a brace in the second-half.
North End had won by the same scoreline themselves though on Monday night when they beat Manchester City at home in a match played at Victory Park, Chorley FC. George Miller on the hour-mark and former Burnley man Rob Turner just five minutes later getting their names on the Preston scoresheet.
Blackpool lost two games this week to end their season, their second defeat coming on Wednesday at Bloomfield Road 1-0 against Morecambe. The Shrimps, who won the title this year, now set to finish above Carlisle thanks to an excellent end of season run that culminated in Jack Brierley's 31st minute strike away to the Seasiders.
The final game in the division this week also came on Wednesday night when Bury drew 1-1 at home to Accrington Stanley, neither official website bothering to even post the result never mind anything else so far. The last match of a second-string season, in which the Blues will finish either third or fourth, comes next Wednesday night when Burnley take on Manchester City at home.
