Jack Mackreth scoring twice to put Rovers 2-0 up before Nathaniel Foster for the Blades and Dale Jennings for Tranmere exchanged goals just before the break. The Blades then made it 3-2 through Phil Roe early in the second-half but the visitors defended resolutely from then on to hold out for the victory.
The only game played in the division in a fortnight came yesterday evening when Morecambe defeated Oldham 2-1 at Christie Park for their first win of the season. Wayne Curtis put the home side 1-0 up on 38 minutes before former Carlisle trialist Craig Lindfield, now looking for a contract with the Shrimps, made it 2-0 from the penalty spot with 70 minutes on the clock. An 82nd minute header from Tom Eaves for the Latics proving to be no more than a consolation goal though.
Next week there are three games scheduled to take place in the division, one of those being a return to action for the Carlisle second-string. United looking to make it four wins from four in a top-of-the table clash against a Rochdale side who have been victorious three times and drawn once so far. The game taking place on Monday afternoon at Brunton Park in a 2pm kick-off.
