Steve Davies then hit the bar for the home side on 27 minutes and ten minutes later Aaron Cresswell brought a save out of Carlisle keeper Anthony Williams, while Danny Harrison came close with a Rovers free-kick on the stroke of half-time. Rovers made it 2-0 on 56 minutes when Cresswell, waiting to take a free-kick 40 yards out on the left, spotted Williams off his line and tried a lob. The United glovesman was able to push the shot onto the bar but Zola had the easy task of tapping in the rebound from inside the six yard box.
The Cumbrians, who were on the back-foot throughout, never really looked like getting a goal back, infact Davies, Harrison and Curran all saw efforts to add to the Tranmere lead saved while Carl Tremarco had a goal disallowed for pushing inside the area from a Rovers corner. So, another setback for Greg Abbott's side with the next match for the Blues being a trip to Accrington Stanley next Wednesday afternoon.
