Some traditional youth team weather of strong wind and rain greeted the start of the second period, with the Blues playing against the poor conditions, albeit against an injury-hit Clarets side employing a centre-forward as an emergency centre-half. The lads continued to play some good stuff on the floor however, although the next goal in the game didn't come until five minutes from the end of an, at times, physical encounter, when the Cumbrians doubled their lead courtesy of Stewardson, the young winger finishing crisply after a neat passing move by United.
Burnley then grabbed a lifeline with two minutes to go when burly Clarets frontman Turner got on the end of a through ball, and in front of Blues centre-half Terry Stewart, to poke his shot home into the Carlisle net past Grant Carson. The home side did have an injury time chance to grab what would have been an undeserved equaliser but Ali Akbar's free-kick drifted wide of the target and United hung on for another excellent win on the road.
