The young Blues fought hard all the way though and unluckily went behind on a poor pitch bang on the half-time whistle. Jonny Blake seemed to be fouled on the half-way line but play went on and his brother Matthew was hit on the arm from point-blank range by a cross coming into the Carlisle box. The referee pointed to the penalty spot though and Jordan Stepien was able to convert the 12-yard chance past United keeper Grant Carson.
The Cumbrians pushed hard to get back into the game but they were unable to get themselves on the scoresheet and they conceded a second goal just before the end of the match. With Carlisle throwing men forward to try to grab a late leveller Bury were able to break forward and a low cross from the flank saw Spencer Dillon on-hand at the Blues back-post to tap the ball into the net from close range.
United play their last game of what has been a slightly disappointing season results-wise when they travel to the bottom team in Group B, in Macclesfield Town, on Saturday morning. That match being the last time some of the Carlisle second-year YTS players will ever wear the Blue shirt again, and thanks and good luck go to them in their future away from Brunton Park.
