Bury Youth 4-2 United Youth

Brad PottsCarlisle had started the game brightly though and a Dillon Morse header from a Danny Dixon cross was well held by Shakers goalkeeper Ryan Howley early on, Alex Salmon then heading narrowly wide of the target from a Dave Symington cross. Salmon then turning provider shortly afterwards with a pass into the run of Lance McGlen, the Blues skipper though seeing his shot on goal saved very well one-handed by Howley.

It was all United in the opening stages then and next up was Beck for a chest down and half-volley on a Salmon ball up, his left-footed effort though being blocked away by the legs of Luke Beastall. Dixon then seeing his low cross from the by-line deflected back into the path of McGlen, only for Howley to once more earn his corn with another excellent parry away from danger on McGlen's shot.

The home side soon started to get into things though and Tom Pratt should perhaps have done better with a quick effort that went well wide. Navid Nasseri then feeding the ball into the path of Pratt for a shot that was pushed away by Blues goalkeeper Jordan Parker, Nasseri then wastefully lashing the resultant rebound harmlessly wide. Parker finding things easier moments later however when he was able to easily collect a 25-yard Wade Joyce free-kick.

It was 1-0 to the Shakers in the 27th minute though when Beastall sent winger Nasseri away, Nasseri making a good run forward before thumping a drive into the roof of the Cumbrians net from 20 yards out. Pratt then laying possession off to Matthew Prickett for a shot which a slightly unsighted Parker did well to stop. The busy Nasseri and Pratt then both shooting narrowly wide before the half-time whistle came with the home side now on top in the game.

Carlisle should have equalised straight after the interval though when a cracking cross in from left-back Dale Minor was somehow headed over the top by Beck from no more than four yards out. The Shakers, with United often struggling to find a good final ball, steadily pegging the Blues back however, with Jamie Barry eventually hammering a powerful shot from distance narrowly wide of Parker's left-hand upright.

It was then 2-0 to Bury in the 61st minute when Barry went down heavily in the Cumbrians penalty area, with Pratt then sending Parker the wrong way from the spot after the award from referee John Mulligan. United though pulling a goal back just four minutes later when Symington and Jack Lynch were both involved in setting up Brad Potts (pictured) for a crunching volley which bounced down into the net via the underside of Howley's crossbar.

The Shakers though restoring their two goal advantage very quickly however when they made it 3-1 after 68 minutes, Barry getting past Brad Staunch before sliding a well placed finish into the back of the United net. The goals were flying in now though and it was 3-2 ten minutes later when Josh Todd, Salmon and Potts were involved in a Carlisle move forward, Salmon and Todd both having shots well saved by Howley before Todd fired home at his second attempt.

Any thoughts of the Blues grabbing a late point were extinguished in the 82nd minute however when Jake Cliffe headed in from 12 yards out on the back of a Beastall free-kick into the United box. So, a third defeat in four games for Carlisle now has certainly ended their title challenge, with the next game up for the Blues again being on the road, this time a week on Friday lunchtime at Wrexham.
