That inexperienced line-up didn't stop Carlisle taking the lead right on the half-time whistle though when a Jonny Blake free-kick into the County box was headed home in front of the Derby goalkeeper by captain for the day Matt Duffy. United making it 2-0 after 52 minutes when Blake, Story and Woolnough all combined well to send Ryan Bowman clear into the penalty area, Bowman then able to finish confidently with an angled cross-shot.
Derby though, after Carlisle had made a few substitutions to have a closer look at players, started to come back into the pre-season friendly and they pulled a goal back just before the midway point in the half. County then grabbing a late equaliser with just five minutes left on the clock after Alex Mitchell had made an uncharacteristic mistake in the United goal.
So, honours finished even in the end, but it was another impressive performance from a youthful Blues outfit against higher league opposition in what has been a very promising warm-up campaign so far. United's last pre-season friendly coming on Monday afternoon when they face Kilmarnock at the Sheepmount ahead of their opening league fixture at home to Burnley next Saturday at Gillford Park.
