The United youngsters will now more than likely face the Silkmen at home on two successive Saturdays.
The two sides are already scheduled to meet in the League in a firey encounter on Bonfire day morning. Then with the FA Youth Cup tie pencilled in to be played the following weekend on Saturday 12th November the teams will end up getting to know each other very well. The young Blues were down to play away to Tranmere on that day in the League so that game will need to be rearranged.
Last year, as a non-league side, the lads had to start their campaign in the final qualifying round which they cruised through defeating Northwich Victoria 4-0 in front of a bumper crowd of 143. That was as good as it got for the youngsters though as they crashed out in the First Round Proper on the end of a 4-1 scoreline to a strong Hull City outfit with 146 spectators in attendance.
The young Blues will be hoping to progress to the Second Round with a draw at home to a Macclesfield side who are 11th in the North and Midlands West Conference two places behind United.
Under normal circumstances the Bristol derby between Rovers and City would have been billed as the tie of the round. However if AFC Wimbledon can get through qualifying round matches away to Sandhurst Town and Farnborough Town they will be rewarded with a trip to the MK Dons. Even at youth team level you'd have to think that a game between the two would attract a big crowd and a fervent atmosphere.
