Both sides play in the same Football League structure as Carlisle, but they are in the North-East Conference, York are doing the better of the two teams as they sit in second in a table of 14 sides, City winning eight, drawing one and losing two of their 11 league games to date.
As a non-league club City have also had to play three games so far in the FA Youth Cup, the KitKat Crescent outfit winning 5-1 at Guisborough Town, 2-1 at Chester-le-Street Town and then 3-1 at home to big Yorkshire rivals Scarborough Town two weeks ago.
Grimsby meanwhile come straight in at the first round stage, but they are struggling a little in the league, the Mariners in eighth after winning four, drawing one and losing five of their ten matches contested to date. Town have the chance to improve on that form tonight though when they take on York at Blundell Park in a 7pm kick-off.
As for Carlisle, well we hopefully, weather permitting - bearing in mind Burnley's reserve match has been waterlogged off tonight already, take on Accrington at the Crown Ground tomorrow night for the right to face Grimsby or York on the road in a second round tie that is supposed to be played by the 21st November. If the Accrington game is rained off though then it could take a while for either Stanley or United to face Town or City.
