FA Youth Cup Second Round Draw Update

FA Youth Cup
There were quite a lot of upsets in round one too as firstly Bury Town beat Walsall 3-2 at home, the Saddlers having been North-West league title winners just two seasons ago, while staying in the Midlands Carlton Town defeated Burton 2-1 at home. Two more home non-league wins over league sides coming down south as Woking beat Dagenham & Redbridge and Ebbsfleet defeated Brentford.

Colchester were another southern club biting the bullet as they crashed out 1-0 at Blue Square South side St Albans. Norwich did make it through but they were pushed all the way to win 4-2 on penalties after extra-time away to Dulwich Hamlet. That was nothing compared to Carlisle though as we took eleven penalties to defeat Accrington 9-8 on spot-kicks, goalkeeper Jon Ball the hero as he first saved opposite number Josh Molloy's effort befone converting his own penalty.

One non-league club that beat a Football League team who we haven't mentioned so far is York City who won 2-1 at Grimsby Town after extra-time. York, who we come up against on the road next Wednesday evening in round two, play in the same Football League structure as Carlisle, but they are in the North-East Conference, the Minstermen doing very well too as they currently sit in second in a table of 14 sides, City winning eight, drawing one and losing just two of their 11 league games to date.

As a non-league club City have also had to play another three games so far in the FA Youth Cup, the KitKat Crescent outfit winning 5-1 at Guisborough Town, 2-1 at Chester-le-Street Town and then 3-1 at home to big Yorkshire rivals Scarborough Town in the final qualifying round of the competition.

Elsewhere in the FA Youth Cup this season Oldham are the last first round tie waiting to be played, the Latics supposed to play Stalybridge Celtic on Monday night only for the game to be postponed due to fog. Oldham will now, weather permitting, play that match tonight, the same evening that the second round begins with Cheltenham Town playing Farnborough FC at home.
