United came back strongly after the disappointment of shipping such an early goal however and they soon equalised when Gary Madine showed some good hold-up play before pushing the ball on into the path of Tom Aldred. Schoolboy forms player Aldred, who joins the YTS scheme at the club next year, remaining calm under pressure as he hit his shot across the Macclesfield keeper and into the back of the net to restore parity in the fixture at 1-1.
Just before half-time the Cumbrians got what would prove to be the winner in the game when Stephen Hindmarch showed all his skills upfront to take the ball around the home glovesman and slot in an easy finish to put United 2-1 ahead. The rest of the match was played out with few chances and the second year players who don't earn a professional contract at Brunton Park can be pleased that their last game in a Blue shirt ended with three points on the board.
