The first goal of the game came in the 12th minute when the home side netted through Chris Hirst, Andy Cook then scoring his 12th goal of the season bang on the half-hour mark when he equalised from a direct free-kick. United then going 2-1 ahead fifteen minutes into the second-half when Ged Dalton, chasing down a through ball from Matthew Brown, lobbed the advancing Macclesfield goalkeeper as he raced from his line to try to narrow the angle.
That was as good as it got for the young Blues though as the Silkmen, thanks to some poor defending from United, scored two goals in the last 20 minutes through Hirst again, and John Rooney (cousin of the infamous Wayne) to take all three points. It would seem the extended run in the FA Youth Cup is impacting on the league form now, and after the Southend game on Wednesday, the lads have the chance to get back on track in the league when they face Stockport County at home next Saturday morning in an 11am kick-off.
