Oldham Youth 2-2 United Youth

United skipper Shaun Vipond
Carlisle did well today to come away with a draw from free-scoring table-toppers Oldham Athletic, although it needed a real backs-to-the-wall defensive display in the final quarter of the match to keep the Latics at bay. United couldn't have got off to a better start though as they took the lead with only a minute on the clock, skipper Shaun Vipond firing home into the Oldham net from fully 25 yards out.

It didn't take the goal-hungry home side long to get back into the game however as they brought the scores level just three minutes later through Rory Winters with a goal from a set-piece. The Latics piled on the pressure after that and although they did miss a few good opportunities to extend their lead they eventually bagged a second goal two minutes into the second-half when midfielder Ashley Kelly got himself onto the scoresheet.

The Blues didn't give in though and they grabbed an equaliser of their own midway through the half when Andy Hardman did well to nod home a Dan Rayson cross at the near-post. After playing against Accrington reserves on Wednesday night the United lads seemed to tire a little in the last 20 minutes or so but some resolute defending ensured that they travelled back up the M6 with a decent point in their pockets.
