Carlisle's youngsters went down to a 3-0 defeat in Lancashire to the under-19 Lilywhites as the home side's superior attacking play put the Cumbrians to the sword.
North End boast the most miserly defence in the division and it is easy to see why as their back-line marshalled the United forwards with little problems throughout.
Preston showed the gulf in divisions and class between the two teams as they continually kept hold of the ball better and left the United lads chasing shadows for most of the game.
To their credit though the Blues never stopped working for each other and showed good attitude in fighting to try and get something from the game until the final whistle.
Two goals from Ashley Stott and one from his strike partner Aaron McConville gave the Lilywhites the win as they went in 1-0 ahead at the break and scored two midway through the second period to condemn United to a 3-0 defeat.
The Cumbrians had few chances in a tough day at the office with only Paul Gardiner and Richie Hoban really forcing any work out of the home keeper as Preston made it seven wins from nine to cement their position of second in the table.
