The home side came out strongly after the break and went to a more direct style as they looked to put pressure on the Cumbrians early on. United weathered the storm though and doubled their lead midway through the second-half with a goal from striker Andy Hardman, who was returning to action after a recent injury. Matthew Wood doing the groundwork for the goal as he won the ball well on the half-way line and broke forward, the young midfielder eventually sending a slide-rule pass through for Hardman to slot home a confident left-footed finish from eight yards out.
Shrewsbury really threw players forward late on as they tried to force a goal and grab a lifeline in the match, that goal eventually coming ten minutes from time. The Salopians flying away on the break after United had conceded possession from an attacking free-kick, striker Tom Moss the youngster getting on the scoresheet as he shot home into the back of the Carlisle net. United hung on to the final whistle though and it will have been a much more pleasant journey back up the M6 with a well-earned three points in the bag.
