Shrewsbury Youth 2-3 United Youth

Pat BroughWith both sides fielding youthful starting elevens at the Sundorne Sports Village, United themselves having seven players missing either unavailable or through injury, it was always likely to be a game where a few mistakes would be made and there would be goals aplenty, with Town, after a spell of early pressure, taking the lead when Sam Molineux netted after Sam Westray had seen his earlier shot blocked.

Carlisle were soon into the game though and after forcing a couple of good saves out of goalkeeper Callum Burton they found an equaliser after 19 minutes when Kyle Dempsey's cross in was well slotted away by Pat Brough (pictured). Burton again having to pull out a couple of useful stops before a mistake at the back from the Cumbrians allowed Westray to hammer home an unstoppable drive from 25 yards out to give the Shrews a 2-1 half-time lead.

After a flea in the ear from Blues boss Eric Kinder during the interval though United came roaring out of the traps well as they pulled themselves back level once more, this time from the penalty spot via Josh Todd after Brad Potts had been felled in the Town box. Carlisle then finding what would prove to be the winning goal only six minutes later when Potts this time went through all the way before slotting a shot past Burton to seal a 3-2 victory for the Cumbrians.
