United Draw Stockport In Youth Alliance Cup

Last updated : 11 October 2006 By Thetashkentterror
Stockport certainly isn't the easiest side Carlisle could have drawn in the competition, with County rocketing their way into the second round after a 8-2 demolition of Burnley on the road in the first round. The goals for the Hatters against a weakened Clarets outfit, who were down to ten men after just 20 minutes, coming from a Martin Smeaton hat-trick and a brace apiece for youth team hotshot Chris Coward and Tommy Rowe, skipper Gianluca Havern being the other County man on the scoresheet.

United were knocked out of the first round of the League Cup last season by the same Stockport side, the Blues going down 2-0 away from home on that occasion. Worse was to come for the Cumbrians though in the first game of the current league campaign, Carlisle being thrashed 4-0 by the Hatters on the Brunton Park training pitch, a Chris Coward hat-trick and a James Vincent 30-yarder after just two minutes condemning the Blues to an opening day defeat.
