United Youth 1-3 Rochdale Youth

Last updated : 15 October 2009 By Thetashkentterror
After going through a reasonable pre-season fixture list Carlisle started the campaign proper off in very disappointing fashion. Rochdale taking the lead early on when some slack defending saw the visitors earn a penalty which they converted. A short while later and that was the end of the action for United goalkeeper Mark Gillespie who had to be substituted after taking a boot to the face.

Ryan Bowman then hit a powerful volley just inches wide in the closing stages of the first-half before Rochdale went 2-0 up through another poor goal from a Carlisle defensive perspective. The Blues did have a sniff of something when James Reid netted moments later to pull a goal back after a mistake by the Rochdale goalkeeper but a shot from just outside the United box made it 3-1 to the visitors who bounced back well after losing 4-0 at home to Wrexham earlier in the week.

As for Carlisle, well, we have another home game next week, this time against Oldham and Blues boss Eric Kinder will be looking for a much better showing than he got today. Kinder suggesting after the match that the lads may have underestimated their opponents after facing some, on paper, tougher sides in pre-season.
