The young Cumbrians took to the field this morning to play a hastily-arranged pre-season friendly, the Carlisle coaching staff looking to keep the lads ticking over with the new league season, and a home game with Stockport, just seven days away. The opposition being Darlington who United had drawn 1-1 with three weeks earlier in a friendly match, the Blues goal in that game coming from Ashley Combe.

All the action came in the second-half with the scoreline at 0-0 at the interval, although both Andy Hardman and Stephen Hindmarch had seen good chances come and go for United in the first-half. Darlington scoring the opening goal three minutes after the break to take the lead, only for Carlisle to level through Mike Stewardson after 65 minutes. The young striker latching on to a through ball and holding off a Quakers defender to fire home past the visitors goalkeeper with almost his first touch of the game. Darlington retook the lead after 75 minutes though to leave United looking at the wrong end of a 2-1 scoreline.

Carlisle came back into the match strongly though and found another equaliser, this time from a close-range Dan Wordsworth shot at the back-post, following a Shaun Vipond corner across the Quakers' penalty area. The Blues kept their late pressure up and were rewarded with a winner five minutes from time after a good run forward by Luke Joyce. Left-back Matthew Blake eventually rifling home a powerful drive from the left-angle of the box across the Darlington keeper to seal an excellent 3-2 comeback victory for United.
