Both sides played some nice football in the first period but it was a goal from the old school that opened the scoring for the Cumbrians before the break. Blues goalkeeper Alex Mitchell hoofing a clearance forward which caught the Wrexham defence asleep, that allowing Andy Cook to race behind the home back-line and slot away a cool finish into the back of the Welsh net.
The Red Dragons came out strongly after the interval but Carlisle defended well and were able to double their lead when Matthew Wood headed home from a Jonny Blake free-kick into the Wrexham penalty area. Connor Tinnion almost made the final scoreline 3-0 to the Blues when he hit the post in the 90th minute but United had to settle for two on a day when a lot of the results at the top end of the table went their way as they look to keep challenging for the title.
