After defeating Wrexham 2-1 at home in the opening stage of the Youth Alliance Cup, thanks to goals from Andy Cook and Liam Davison, and then Mansfield in the second round, again 2-1 at home, with the goals scored by Jonny Blake and Matt Duffy from the penalty spot the young Blues have this time been drawn away.
United facing a trip to Tranmere in the quarter-finals of the Northern section of the competition. Rovers, who Carlisle are yet to play this season, currently sitting in fifth place of the North-West division with a record of six wins, three draws and three defeats in the league this campaign. Tranmere also having won 1-0 at Stockport and defeated Blackpool 3-0 at home in the League Cup.
All games in the final eight of each region of the League Cup are to be played on Saturday the 24th of January 2009 and the full draw is as follows :
