Youth Team Contract Offer News

It's better news for right-back Simon Lakeland and left-winger Conor Tinnion though who have been awarded 12-month professional contracts with the club that take them up to June 2010. Lakeland having joined United on a two-year YTS deal in July 2007, while Tinnion has made a steady progression through the Centre of Excellence ranks.

There is always disappointment for someone though and that comes for 18-year old goalkeeper Alex Mitchell who had also come through the Carlisle Centre of Excellence ranks up to YTS level. Alex now being released after missing out on the offer of a professional contract.

Two players had already left the club last week too in left-back Matt Duffy and midfielder John Seaton who were both released from their second year YTS contracts by mutual consent. Duffy, on whom on a professional contract decision offer had not been made, to take up a sports scholarship in Florida, while Seaton had been released in order to allow him to explore other avenues.

Thanks for all your hard work and efforts in your time with Carlisle United to those two lads, along of course with Alex Mitchell, from everyone at CUFC Online and we wish them the very best of luck for the future.

As for the other three second-year lads, centre half and captain Tom Aldred and central midfielder Jonny Blake both, in December 2008, signed professional contracts that will run until the end of June 2010. Prolific goalscorer Andy Cook joining that duo when he signed a similar deal in early January of this year.

The wheel never stops turning though at Brunton Park and six players in turn now move up to the second year of their YTS contract next season. Those six being Ryan Bowman (centre forward), Jamie Cleary (centre half), Liam Davison (centre midfield), Mark Gillespie (goalkeeper), Sean Law (centre midfield) and James Wood (right back). That number of six down from seven after centre-forward Chris McDougall was released from his contract by mutual consent today.

Meanwhile starting their first YTS year at Brunton Park next season will be nine new boys, four of those coming from the under-16 ranks in James Bonner (right back), Mark Sloan (centre forward), Steven Swinglehurst (left back) and Phil Towler (utility midfield).

As well as five others from further afield in Jon Ball (goalkeeper), Kieren Cahill (left back), Ben McKenna (right midfield), Patrick O'Brien (left midfield) and James Osmond (left midfield). 17-year old striker James Reid, who has been on trial with the youth team at end of this season, also looking like he will be offered a deal to remain with the club in the 2009-10 youth campaign.
