Four games on and four games off in the league at the weekend, with United one of the clubs falling foul of the wet weather of late, with Carlisle's scheduled home match at Frenchfields against Wigan being postponed early on Saturday morning. The next game for the young Blues in the league now being an away fixture at second-bottom Burnley next Saturday.
In the four matches that were played Oldham extended their lead over Wigan to three points at the top of Group A by winning 3-1 at home to Burnley. Also in Group A Blackpool consolidated their third spot in the table as they won 4-2 at home to Accrington, Stanley's youth team enduring a torrid first season at Football League level with the defeat at the Seasiders being their eleventh in a row from the start of the campaign.
Meanwhile, in Group B, both the bottom two sides won to push an out-of-action Wrexham to the foot of the table. Macclesfield beating Port Vale, who are dropping like a stone in the division, 1-0 at home, while Shrewsbury had an excellent victory as they defeated Tranmere Rovers, who could have gone second in the table behind leaders Walsall with a draw, 2-1 at home.
