Only four games went ahead again in the Puma Youth Alliance North West Conference on Saturday morning, one of those coming in Group A and the other three being played in Group B. In the half of the league Carlisle are in, Group A, Accrington slipped to their 14th defeat out of 14 went they went down 2-1 at home to Rochdale, Stanley's consolation goal scored by Joseph Shelmerdine.
In Group B Stockport moved above Walsall to the top of the table as they came back from Shrewsbury with a thumping 6-0 victory, Alex Elliott (2), Chris Coward, Paul Ennis, Dan Ellis and Paul Turnbull bagging the goals in the County romp. Chester won 2-1 at Macclesfield Town to stay fourth, City's scorers being Steve Thorpe and Paul McManus with Nick Blackburn netting late on for the Silkmen. Meanwhile Tranmere went second in the table, thus relegating Walsall to third, after defeating Wrexham 3-1 at home.
United's scheduled match at home to Group A table-toppers Oldham fell foul of the recent weather, meaning that with a recent bye week and postponed match against Wigan, the young Blues will have only played one league fixture in six weeks by the time the Conference starts again on the 6th of January after the Christmas break. That return to action early in the new year for Carlisle sees the Cumbrians face rock-bottom Accrington at Frenchfields, United hoping that they don't end up as the first club not to claim all three points against Stanley this season.
