Youth Team League Weekend Update

Last updated : 24 April 2007 By Thetashkentterror
United's season might have ended last week but there are still plenty of games in hand for other teams to complete before the campaign finishes. Bury and Preston fought out a ten-goal thriller as both sides looked to finish second, behind title winners Oldham, in Group A, the Shakers eventually winning out 6-4 after being 2-1 down at half-time.

The other game in Group A saw Rochdale defeat Blackpool 2-1 at home, that win for the 'Dale meaning Carlisle will finish fifth out of nine teams in the Group A mini-league come the end of the season.

Amazingly, going into the last week of the campaign, four teams are still able to win the Group B title, although current table-toppers Tranmere face a nervous morning having completed their fixtures two weeks ago. Chester and Walsall are two of the chasers and they drew 0-0 in Cheshire on Saturday, a result which helped the title hopes of neither side.

Stockport, like Walsall, missed the chance to move into pole position as they surprisingly slipped up 3-0 at fifth-placed Port Vale, the Hatters have a chance to make up for that defeat though when they face Walsall away next Saturday morning in a potential winner-takes-all clash. In the match between the bottom two teams in Group B Macclesfield ended their season on a winning note with a 2-0 victory at Wrexham.
