In Youth Alliance Cup action, Burnley won 3-1 at home to Rochdale and Hull 2-0 at home to Preston in the Northern Section quarter-finals. In the Southern last eight QPR were victorious 5-1 at Peterborough earlier in the week, while in the other games Brentford, after a 0-0 draw, defeated Rushden and Diamonds 4-1 on penalties, Colchester won 1-0 at Oxford United and Brighton defeated Wycombe 3-1 at home.
The semi-final draw for the competition was made this morning and should Carlisle get past Wigan in the last eight they will face a trip to a Hull side who are top of the North-East conference. United were scheduled to have a blank week this coming Saturday but the already rearranged league game at Morecambe has now been pulled forward from April to try to ease the fixture backlog at the end of the season.
