Given that Burnley had won seven from seven and that Accrington had lost six out of six it was somewhat unsuprising to see the Clarets beat Stanley 2-0 at home on Saturday morning. Wrexham stay in second, after losing their first game of the season at Carlisle in the League Cup last week the Red Dragons bounced back with a 4-2 home victory over last season's now struggling title-winners Walsall.
Oldham are fourth despite a shock 2-1 defeat at home to Rochdale, while Port Vale, in fifth, hammered Wigan 4-0 at home, that the first defeat of the campaign for the Latics. Tranmere complete the top six with their high-scoring 6-3 win at home to Morecambe, while in the mid-table reaches Stockport lost 1-0 at Macclesfield, the Silkmen toppling the Hatters for their first victory of the season.
Down at the wrong end of the table Preston thumped Blackpool 4-0 away from home, while Chester's opening win came as they defeated Shrewsbury 2-0 at home. Carlisle meanwhile are now up to third after four goals from Andy Cook saw them defeat Bury 4-0 at home, United's next chance to make it seven wins on the bounce coming when they face Port Vale at Gillford Park this coming Saturday morning in a 12noon kick-off.
