Youth Team League Weekend Update

The weather was the winner again last week as five of the scheduled nine matches were called off due to poor pitch conditions. Most of the games played involved mid-table teams with Wigan in ninth, defeating Port Vale in eighth, 6-3 at home in a nine-goal thriller. Blackpool, who were third bottom, beating Oldham, who are fourth, 3-2 at home came as a surprise, while Shrewsbury moved up four places in the table with a 2-1 home victory against Chester.

As we already know, Carlisle hammered Rochdale 8-1 at home, the goals coming from Andy Cook (3), Shaun Law, Ryan Bowman, Matt Duffy, Jonny Blake and Mark Sloan. With Burnley frozen out of action again Saturday's victory, their eleventh from fourteen league games, sees United sit proudly on top of the table for the first time this season.

The unbeaten Clarets though are only a point behind and they now have two games in hand, one of those coming this Saturday when they play Oldham at home in a match that was called off during the monsoon month of September. United's next league game comes after the Christmas break on Saturday the 10th of January when they face a tough fixture at home to fifth-placed Preston North End.
