Carlisle will stay at the top of the table now over the Christmas period after Burnley, a point behind but with two games in hand, saw their scheduled match postponed for the third week in a row due to the poor weather. That allowing Wrexham, who have played the same amount of games as United, to move a point behind the Clarets after defeating Stockport 3-1 at home.
Down at the other end of the table Chester defeated, and therefore leapfrogged, a Blackpool side who are having a wretched season 2-1 on the road. In better news for a Lancastrian outfit though Accrington Stanley finally picked up their first point of the campaign yesterday, after 12 defeats, when they drew 2-2 at home to Rochdale.
The league now goes into hibernation over the festive break, with the next round of matches, in which Carlisle are at home to a rapidly improving Preston North End, coming on Saturday the 10th of January. Morecambe and Bury though, who along with Burnley have played the fewest games so far, come back seven days early in an effort to clear their fixture backlog.
