Although Easter Saturday was scheduled to be a blank date ten clubs had no choice but to arrange five games in order to plough through their fixture backlog. Burnley one side involved as they defeated Tranmere 2-0 at home to move just two points behind Carlisle, and six behind table-toppers Wrexham, while still having three and four games in hand respectively on those two clubs.
Wigan meanwhile moved up into fifth in the table after thumping Blackpool 5-2 at home, the Seasiders now having conceded a mammoth 71 goals in the league this season. They did manage to keep a rare clean sheet on Wednesday afternoon though in their first outing of the week when they drew 0-0 away to second-bottom Morecambe.
Port Vale have collapsed in the last two months of the season and they lost again on Saturday in their final game of the campaign, that being a 3-2 defeat at home to Shrewsbury. The Valiants now looking like they will finish in the bottom half of the table after occupying fourth spot for the majority of the season.
Two clubs now on the same points as Vale are Macclesfield and last season's title-winners Walsall, those teams fighting out a 1-1 draw at the home of the Silkmen at the weekend. The final game played in the division this week saw a rapidly improving Rochdale side win 2-1 on the road at a struggling Bury outfit.
This Saturday coming Carlisle's title challenge looks it will be finally over if, as expected, Wrexham defeat rock-bottom Accrington Stanley at home in their closing fixture of the campaign. Burnley meanwhile can still overtake the Red Dragons but a horrendous run of eleven youth and reserve games in three weeks to close out their season could be their stumbling block.
