Preston stay at the top of the table with five wins from five after they got three points again, this time 2-1 on the road at Oldham, Stockport in second having a similar success at Rochdale. Wigan are now up to third after they fought out a 0-0 stalemate in North Wales against Wrexham, while Shrewsbury are having a good season compared to their usual efforts, the Shrews sixth on the back of a 2-1 home win over Macclesfield.
Tranmere had a bad week though as they were hammered 4-0 on home turf by Walsall, while Chester were another side shipping four goals, City going down 4-1 at Port Vale. In another high scoring game Burnley defeated Accrington 6-3 at home while Blackpool also had a bad Saturday defensively, the Seasiders losing 4-1 at lowly Morecambe.
Blackpool being Carlisle's next opponents in the league in a switched fixture that now sees United playing at home to the Lancastrians instead of away due to a flood at the Tangerines' training ground. That game, like last Saturday's narrow 1-0 win over Bury thanks to a second-half Liam Davison strike, again kicking off at 11am at Creighton Rugby Club.
