Wigan remain in fourth despite their scheduled fixture being rearranged for late November, while Rochdale are dropping away a little after a good start as they only drew 2-2 at home to Accrington Stanley. In mid-table Shrewsbury went down 3-1 on home soil against Tranmere, while the mini-derby finished 1-1 in North Wales between Wrexham and Chester.
Blackpool, after finishing fifth in the 2007-08 table, have been dreadful for a Championship level club in the last two seasons and they lost again, the Seasiders making it up to 24 goals conceded in seven games as they were hammered 5-1 at Bury. A lot more goals came further up the coast though as Morecambe were absolutely thrashed 8-3 at home to Oldham.
As we already know Carlisle had an excellent 4-0 win at Burnley to move up to fifth in the table, Ryan Bowman getting a hat-trick and missing a penalty after Manny Richardson had opened the scoring for the Cumbrians. Next weekend United will be hoping to take advantage of Morecambe's obvious defensive frailties when they play the Shrimps at home on Saturday morning in an 11am kick-off at Creighton Rugby Club.
