Walsall finished top of the division two seasons ago and they were having another good campaign this time round, however the fifth-placed Saddlers this weekend went down 2-0 at Shrewsbury. Into the mid-table reaches and Oldham moved above Rochdale with a 4-2 win at the 'Dale, while Macclesfield lost 1-0 away to Chester. Burnley though winning on the road 3-2 at Bury while Port Vale got only their second win in nine games with a remarkable 6-0 victory at home to Tranmere.
As for Carlisle, well we remain in fifth, four points off the top of the table with a third of the season now gone, after defeating Morecambe 3-0 at home on Saturday, the United goals scored by Mark Sloan, Manny Richardson and Liam Davison. Next week the young Blues can make it their fifth league win in six matches when they make the trip down to Bury, a side they defeated 1-0 at home last month.
