Carlisle remain in fifth despite not playing, United one place ahead of Rochdale who hammered Blackpool 6-2 at home. Burnley are picking up now after a slow start and they won 3-1 on home turf against Chester, while Wrexham defeated Macclesfield 2-1 in North Wales and finally Oldham and Bury drew 1-1 at the home of the Latics.
Next week is the second round of the league cup, Carlisle having lost 2-1 at home to Preston in the opening round of the competition. With Port Vale also getting knocked out the two sides take out what is the only advantage of that and play a league game that had been scheduled for later in the season, Burnley and Rochdale also having the same idea.
