Up at the top end of the table Walsall defeated Wrexham 3-2 at home to move level with Preston on points, North End though remaining top on goal difference. Wigan got their match on but they lost 3-1 against Wrexham, that only their second league defeat of the season, while finally in the lower mid-table reaches Chester drew 1-1 at home to Port Vale.
Carlisle's scheduled match at Stockport was called off on Friday but that will at least have given the lads a rest ahead of their tough looking match at York City in the FA Youth Cup on Wednesday evening. Two and a bit days after that game and the young Blues return to league action, weather permitting, when they make the trip down the coast to take on struggling Blackpool.
