Third placed Wigan though picked up points on the Saddlers by thumping Macclesfield 4-0 at home, while Shrewsbury are now up to seventh after hammering Tranmere 6-2 on the road. The Shrews sitting one spot above Burnley who continue to pick up points after a slow start as they won 2-1 at Oldham.
Down in mid-table and Chester seemingly beat Wrexham 1-0, the Chester website reporting that score with Sam Coulter getting the goal, while the Red Dragons say they lost 1-0 at Prestatyn in the third round of the Welsh FA Youth Cup, so take your pick.
As we already know Carlisle won 3-0 at Blackpool thanks to goals from James Reid, Ben McKenna and Ryan Bowman, the United youngsters now up to fourth in the table. This Saturday was supposed to be a blank weekend but three fixtures have been pulled forward from later in the season, one of those is Carlisle at home to Accrington but the heavy recent rain could yet see that game called off.
