That result did Walsall a favour as they now move level with Preston on points, the Saddlers winning the battle of the last two seasons' title winners when they won 4-1 at home to Wrexham. The rest of the top five, in Wigan, Stockport and Carlisle were all rained off, while up to sixth are Rochdale who had a 3-1 victory on the road at Oldham.
Shrewsbury are one place behind as they thumped Accrington Stanley 5-0 in Shropshire, while after a dreadful start to the season Burnley have now won six games in a row, this weekend the Clarets defeating Bury 1-0 at home. Finally come Macclesfield and Port Vale, with the Valiants picking up a 1-0 win away to the Silkmen.
Next week is the last full Saturday fixture list before the Christmas break, with Carlisle, currently in fifth in the table, weather permitting, scheduled to take on an in-form Burnley side at Creighton Rugby Club at 11am. The biggest game elsewhere featuring two top four sides as Stockport face Wigan at home.
