Just when you thought we might be getting somewhere as far the weather is concerned, the freezing conditions returned at the weekend and caused almost a clean sweep of postponements in the division. The only game played coming in North Wales where Shrewsbury won 1-0 at Wrexham to consolidate their third spot in the table.
Earlier in the week Preston had moved three points ahead at the top with a 1-0 away victory at Bury, while in the third round of the northern section of the League Cup, Macclesfield defeated Grimsby 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw over 90 minutes. Next Saturday there are eight games on in the division, with Carlisle and Port Vale having the weekend off having moved their designated fixture forward to November, a game United won handsomely 5-1.
