With Preston inactive this week, as they were supposed to be playing the now defunct Chester City, Shrewsbury made up some ground on North End with a 4-0 win at home to struggling Blackpool. Third-placed Walsall also taking three points this weekend with a 5-3 home victory over Carlisle, Manny Richardson (2) and Matt Osmond getting the goals for a young and inconsistent United side.
Rochdale have now dropped down to fourth in the table after being waterlogged off at Macclesfield, while the rest of the top six is made up by Stockport and Burnley respectively, the Clarets though winning 4-1 at County on Saturday. Into the mid-table reaches and Bury won 3-2 at Tranmere, while Wrexham defeated Oldham 2-0 at home.
Finally the bottom two teams in the division, in Morecambe and then wooden-spooners Accrington Stanley, both picked up a point on the road with 2-2 draws, away to Wigan and Port Vale respectively. Next weekend, with Wembley in mind, Carlisle's home game against Wigan has now been moved to the end of the season, while during the week there are three games in hand being played elsewhere.
