It's that time of the year now where games in hand are played all across the week, particularly this season given the awful winter we had. Up at the top of the table Preston only played one game as they thumped Macclesfield 6-0 at home, that ending a bad week for the Silkmen as they had earlier lost 2-0 at home to Stockport, County now up to fourth in the table after then on Saturday thrashing Blackpool 5-0 on the road.
The Seasiders another side to lose twice this week as they went down 3-2 on Monday away to rock-bottom Accrington. That was as good as it got for Stanley though as on Saturday they lost 2-1 at home to Shrewsbury. Second-placed Town the only club now to have a real chance of catching Preston for the title as they are currently only three points off the pace.
Rochdale are having an excellent season at all levels and during the week they won 2-1 at an improving Burnley side. The Clarets then involved in a very entertaining game on Saturday as they drew 4-4 at home to Tranmere. Also in Lancashire at the weekend came the last two games played as Bury drew 0-0 at home to Walsall, while Port Vale surprisingly won 2-1 at Wigan.
This week we keep going with midweek games in hand being played, although there are of course now a few less after the sad demise of Chester City earlier this month. As for Carlisle, well we are scheduled to face Morecambe away on Good Friday morning, but given that the Shrimps have had waterlogging problems in the past, don't be surprised if the game is called off due to the bad weather this week.
