Three games this season and there is only, somewhat surprisingly, Blackpool, who have struggled badly in recent years left with a 100% record of three wins from three, that even more eyebrow raising when you consider that last week's 2-0 win over last season's title winners Preston was this weekend followed up with a 1-0 win at perennially strong side Burnley.
Second in the table are Port Vale who dropped their first points in a 2-2 draw at home to Wrexham, while in third come a Shrewsbury side who also drew 2-2 at home, this time to fourth placed Walsall. The last club to make up the top five being Oldham, with the Latics also gaining a point on Saturday, in a 1-1 draw at Accrington Stanley.
3-2 and 2-2 were popular results at the weekend and Preston continued their relatively poor start to the season when they lost 3-2 at home to Morecambe, another 3-2 winner being Wigan who defeated Tranmere at home by that scoreline. Stockport and Macclesfield bucking the trend a little though as the Hatters beat the Silkmen 2-1 at home in a Cheshire mini-derby.
The final game played in the division being Carlisle's 2-2 draw at Rochdale as United scored their first goals of the season as left-back Matt Osmond netted twice, the home goals meanwhile coming from Tom Bentham and Laurie Bell. The young Blues next weekend again on the road, this time at Morecambe, as they continue to look for their first win of the new campaign.
