Only three games took place in the division this week and it was Rochdale who made the most of it as they moved to within one point of Blackpool at the top of the table with a 4-2 win at home to Morecambe. Burnley, meanwhile are now up to fifth place with a 2-1 victory at Bury, and Carlisle drew 3-3 at Port Vale, the United goals coming from Mark Beck (2) and Steven Swinglehurst.
In the northern section of the League Cup, two out of the three sides from Carlisle's North-West division won through to the second round of the competition. Macclesfield and Wigan claiming victories in South Yorkshire at Doncaster and Rotherham 3-2 and 1-0 respectively, but Bury went down 2-1 at home to Hull City.
It's a full round of league action next week though and on Saturday morning the Cumbrians continue to look for their first win of the season when they face an in-form Burnley at home in an 11am kick-off at Creighton Rugby Club. Morecambe the side this Saturday having a week off in a 17-team division.
