Into the mid-table reaches and Wigan defeated Walsall 3-1 at home, and another side winning on their own turf were Macclesfield who had a healthy 4-1 victory over Wrexham. Even further down the motorway Shrewsbury drew 1-1 at home to Stockport, while last season's title winners Preston picked up only their second league victory of the season with a 2-0 home win over Bury.
The final game played in the division this week was Carlisle drawing 1-1 at home to Accrington Stanley, trialist Colin Bell scoring the United goal as the young Blues continue to search for their opening win of the campaign. Next week it's cup action though as the Cumbrians travel to Preston in the second round of the northern section of the League Cup, Carlisle having received a bye through the opening stage of the competition.
