Blackpool's poor recent form finally caught up with them in a big way at the weekend after they were thrashed 8-0 at Oldham and finally lost top spot to a still unbeaten Port Vale side who were victorious 3-2 at Tranmere. The only other game in the division being played meanwhile came in the mid-table reaches as Shrewsbury defeated Wrexham 2-1 at home.
Carlisle's match, this time at Accrington Stanley, was postponed and that now means that the young Blues have now only played two league matches in just over three months, who says we need a winter break at this level? Next weekend, weather permitting, United are scheduled to be on the road once more as they make the trip down the M6 to Bury.
