Port Vale's lead at the top of the table was cut down to just one point as they lost, remarkably, their first league game of the season at the weekend, the Valiants going down 2-0 at home to Burnley. Rochdale meanwhile remain in second after an excellent 4-1 win away to Wrexham, and Blackpool stay third despite losing 3-1 on the road at Macclesfield.
Preston are starting to move up the table a little bit and their cause was certainly helped by two aways victories in three days, North End winning 4-2 at Wigan on Saturday and then 2-1 at Bury on Monday. The Shakers did though get three points on Saturday when they won 4-3 at Shrewsbury, while their local neighbours Oldham lost 2-0 at Walsall.
Finally Morecambe went down 3-0 at Tranmere and Carlisle had one defeat and one postponement during the week. United's game at Accrington on Tuesday being called off due to a waterlogged pitch, with the young Blues then going on to lose 4-2 at Stockport on Saturday. Next weekend United facing yet another away trip as they make the relatively short trip down to Blackpool.
