Elsewhere in the division on Saturday Oldham bounced back from their midweek defeat against Rochdale with a 2-0 home win over rock-bottom Tranmere, and Morecambe picked up their fourth league win of the season as they picked up three points with a 3-1 home victory over Stockport. The weather though letting down two other Lancastrian sides as home games for Accrington Stanley and Preston against Wrexham and Walsall respectively were postponed.
As for Carlisle, United had a victory and a defeat on the board this week, the young Blues first winning 3-2 on Tuesday at Accrington thanks to goals from Mark Beck, Tom Berwick and Dan Jones, then losing 2-1 at home to Shrewsbury on Saturday with Beck once more being the Cumbrians scorer. This week meanwhile there is no Saturday game for Carlisle but they do face Rochdale at home at Creighton at 2pm on Thursday afternoon, then Bury away at 2.30pm the following Monday.
