Rochdale managed to open up a five point gap at the top of the table when they beat Carlisle 2-0 at Creighton on Thursday afternoon, but they did miss the chance to improve that margin to eight points on Saturday when they went down 4-2 at Walsall. Two other sides in the top five also losing on the road at weekend, as Oldham were defeated 2-1 at Stockport and Blackpool lost 1-0 in North Wales against Wrexham.
Saturday was a good one for three Lancashire clubs though as Wigan beat Accrington 3-0 at home, Preston picked up a good 4-1 win on the Wirral at Tranmere, and Morecambe came out on top 4-3 in a seven goal thriller away to Shrewsbury. The only draw of the week coming in Cheshire as Macclesfield finished level 2-2 at home to Bury. The Shakers though getting three points this afternoon as they beat Carlisle 3-2, the United goals coming from Mark Sloan and Steven Swinglehurst whose next game is a 10.45 kick-off at home to Tranmere at Creighton Rugby Club on Saturday morning.
