Youth Team League Weekend Update

Last updated : 21 March 2011 By Thetashkentterror

Burnley stay at the top of the table after the weekend following their 2-1 win at Wigan, but Rochdale are right on their tails on goal difference as they picked up three points as well with their own victory on the road, 2-0 at Stockport. Port Vale also remain where they were, in third, after defeating Oldham 2-0 at home, but Preston are the big movers up to fourth after getting a draw and a win this week. North End finishing their game in hand level at 2-2 at home to Walsall on Wednesday before then going on to be another side winning away from home on Saturday as they tasted victory 2-0 at Shrewsbury.

There were plenty of goals at home at the weekend as well though as rock-bottom Tranmere picked up a rare win with a 5-0 home thrashing of Accrington Stanley, and Wrexham also bagged five at home as they beat Bury 5-1. Lower down the pay scale and Walsall only managed four in a 4-2 win over free-falling Blackpool, with Macclesfield then bringing up the rear as they defeated Morecambe 3-0 in Cheshire.

Next week sees the usual near end of season fixture list with a game in hand being played during the week at Port Vale, while Carlisle's game at home to Wrexham has been moved forward a day to a Friday afternoon 1pm kick-off at Creighton Rugby Club, That the first of six games the young Blues have left now this season as the Cumbrians field what will now be a heavily weakened side with only Ben Mckenna and Steven Swinglehurst left for selection of the eight United second years that had begun the campaign.
