Burnley were the team to get the most out of the weekend as their 4-0 win at home to Stockport meant that they moved back to the top of the table as Port Vale could only draw 1-1 at lowly Accrington Stanley. Rochdale meanwhile remain in third thanks to a 3-2 home win over Macclesfield Town. The division becomes a bit log jammed after that point and in the mid-table reaches Wigan got a big victory 5-1 on the road at Macclesfield while Shrewsbury were another side in form on their travels as they thrashed a completely free-falling Blackpool side 4-0 in Lancashire.
Finally Bury drew 1-1 at home to Tranmere, while further south Oldham went down 2-1 on Latics turf against Wrexham. As for Carlisle, well they snapped a six game losing streak with a 1-1 draw at home to Walsall, United getting a close range 84th minute equaliser through centre-half Will James, this Saturday coming the Blues facing another tough job as they aim to get three points when they face an in-form Preston North End side in an 11am kick-off at Creighton Rugby Club.
Away from league action Wycombe defeated Southend 1-0 at home in the southern area final of the Youth Alliance Cup, the Wanderers goal coming as early as the eighth minute through Lee Weemes after some good approach play from wing-man Nathan Olukanmi. Wycombe now face, somewhat surprisingly, northern area winners Darlington, in the final of the competition, the game scheduled to be played on at Adams Park on Wednesday 4th May in a 7pm kick-off.
