So, it's hats off to Rochdale as they made sure of winning the youth team title on the last weekend of the season with a 2-1 win at Tranmere, the 'Dale going one better than the 2009-10 campaign when they finished as runners-up to Preston. North End themselves sliding from second to third place on Saturday morning as they lost 2-1 away to Stockport, while Burnley leapfrogged them with a 2-0 victory in North Wales at Wrexham.
Port Vale then finished fourth despite losing 2-0 at home to Morecambe, and completing the top five are Wigan who put the final nail in Blackpool's catastrophic second-half to the season with a 5-0 home win. The other two games played though saw some rare good news for Carlisle this season results-wise, Accrington's 3-2 defeat at Walsall coupled with United's 3-2 victory at Macclesfield (goals - Jamie Clarey 2, Mark Beck) meaning that the young Blues escaped the wooden spoon spot by one point.
Away from our region and over to the North-East and Chesterfield's excellent season has spread down to youth team level where they won the title, with Notts County finishing as runners-up. Another first team division winner in QPR also getting silverware at youth level in the South-East region, with Millwall as runners-up. Mixed news at Swindon though, as with their first team relegated the young lads have led the way with a title success in the South-West, Exeter City then finishing in second place. The final trophy to be presented this season being the Youth Alliance Cup which will be contested in the final between Wycombe Wanderers and Darlington at Adams Park on Wednesday evening.
